I read an article that said to get a pedometer and the average person walks 1000 steps a day. Try to increase it to 2000/day. I had one but it just needed a battery and I never really knew how to use it. On day #1 I walked over 4000 steps! On day #2 I had the day off from work and I walked over 7000 steps. Now, I know I'm a busy mom but does this seem excessive? One day I wore it all day plus took a 40 min brisk walk and clocked 12,000+ steps!

It seems to be working properly. I can calabrate it to different stride lengths but that doesn't affect thenumber of steps, just the number of miles. Can somebody tell me, does this seem correct? Maybe the article I read was no good, or the average person is way more sedendary then I am.

It seems about right to me. I use to have one but it broke. Minus regular exercise, I think I got anywhere from 5,000 to 7,000/ day on average. "They" say that you should aim to get 10,000 steps/day, which is around 5 miles.

10,000 steps

Thanks. I must be remembering the article wrong. Maybe it said the average 10,000 and we should aim for 20,000. That would be more like it. I was hoping my counter wasn't broken, which I guess it isn't. I haven't read the article yet but I will. THANKS!

I average around 6,000 without any excersize. For weightloss or maintenance you are supposed to aim for 10,000 a day. Sounds like you are right on target for average steps/day.
