| On April 20, 2010, an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig set off an historic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, just off the Louisiana coast. Efforts to keep the leaking oil out of sensitive wetlands and bayous are ongoing, but the potential effects on the fishing and wildlife are disastrous.
The Gulf Aid benefit concert in New Orleans on May 16, 2010, was a huge success, raising $300,088.65 for the Gulf Relief Foundation!
"This was truly an 8-day wonder," said David Freedman, General Manager of WWOZ and a member of the board of the Gulf Relief Foundation. "The Foundation's first distribution will be to the fishing community most impacted by the shutdown of activity in St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parishes."
Fuse TV will air "GULF AID: Concert for the Coast" on Saturday, May 22 at 11 p.m. ET / 10 p.m. CT. The hour-long show will feature Lenny Kravitz, John Legend, Ani Difranco, Allen Toussaint, The Voice of the Wetlands All-Stars and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band with Mos Def. Watch the concert online or on DirecTV 339 / EchoStar 158 (cable subscribers, check local listings).
